A mighty weapon indeed!

I prepare for photo taking by usually looking at the doll for inspiration.  Usually my best photos come from the doll 'telling' me what style she will look best in.

I usually take photos of new dolls, but if I happen to walk past my doll cabinet and look at a dolly and get a light bulb in my head, she will be my next subject!

Photo taking for me is quite spontaneous...

Photographs are taken mostly in the day as I find that daylight is most flattering for taking photos because there are less shadows, and I take the pictures in my bedroom.

I have a spare bed in my room, so it acts as a table.  I use the backdrop from my photo tent in most of my shots.

For nightshoots, (because I will be using a table lamp to illuminate my sunjects), I choose a shimmery disco material as the backdrop so it will shimmer when the light shines on it, and it brings out the doll better.
The camera I use is good enough if you want to take pictures free hand. I recommend a tripod to make sure the photo turns out super crisp and sharp.
I am usually too lazy though and take the photos freehand.
The most important thing to remember is NOT to take photos with the built in camera flash. It makes the photo flat and harsh looking.
I do a lot of prep work on the doll before I take pictures of her.
To make her look her best.
I comb her hair so as to eliminate each and every single flyaway strand.
Sometimes I add a little water to tame her hair.
Plus, if her lashes are drooping, I push them back up so they don't cover her eyes.
While previewing the doll before hand,
if I see that there is dust on her face,
I wipe it off so three will be less photoshop work to do later.

So, as you can see...
Just a few simple steps and you too will be on your way to taking better photographs!
