If you've been frequenting the
fashion doll boards lately,
odds are, you've seen the
amazing photography of
Chosen4.

Who is he?

Where did he come from?

Where has he been hiding all
this time?

Wonder no more because
SeloJ Spa has the scoop...

Let's get started!
How long have you been involved
with photography?

I don't really know exactly, but I do
know that as a little kid I used to make
photos of various toys.
Looking back now, those photos were
kinda fun - ha ha.
I guess 3 - 4 years ago, I really got into
it and now I can't live without taking
photos.
Where do you live and what do you
do in your everyday life?

I live in Rotterdam, Holland.
Right now it's complicated :)
I quit college a while back because I
decided to give up on what I was
doing at the time which Graphic
Design.  I wanted something else (toy
design) but I couldn't find it in Holland.
I also wanted to do illustration.  Right
now, I have my eye on product design
too, but I'd do toy design in a second if
I could afford it!
What is your given name?

Ahmet Steltman

What does the name Chosen4
mean?

It all started when I was in high school.
I used to draw four characters (and
still do btw) and I gave them back
stories and personalities.  They had the
powers of the elements.  If I ever got
the chance to do a comic of them, it
would be called Chosen4.  The 4
stands for the 4 characters and their
powers.  My friends eventually started
calling me Chosen4 in reference to my
drawings.  It's been my nickname for a
long time now.
What doll and/or action
figure is your personal
favorite(s)?

Oh, that's hard to say!  I guess
my most favorite are Barbie
dolls (preferably the 1998
Generation Girl Lara).  Nippon
Misaki is also my favorite and
my 2 super dollfies.  As for
figures, I absolutely love the
new MOYU (he-man) mini
statues, Final Fantasy figures
and Spawn.

How many dolls are in your
personal collection?

There must be about 200 - 300
dolls in my collection.  Though
I don't consider most of them
to be in "the" collection.  I have
about 200 dolls stored in boxes
because I don't have room for
them right now and I don't have
current plans for them.  So
they're the forgotten dolls.
What led you to collect fashion
dolls?

I started my first collection with My
Scene dolls back when they were first
released.  I continued with them for
about 2 years and then I stopped.
Most of them are now in boxes.  I
guess it was when Versace was
released that I fell in love with Barbie's
new Model Muse body and since then
I'm more fond of collector dolls.
Your pictures have such depth
perception.  What do you do to
prepare yourself, the subject and
the background for photographic
sessions?

I always start with a fully charged
camera.  I choose the doll/figure I
want to model, then I prepare it for
the photo shoot.  Most times it's a
simple shoot with no special
backdrops.  SOmtimes I like to go
all out.  My backdrops are mostly
fabrics, cardboard and even pieces
of furniture.
What does your personal collection consist of?

Right now my main collection theme is Lara dolls.  The Generation Girl Lara/Ana head mold.
So far I have almost every one of them that have been released.  It's funny now that the first oll
I ever bought with my first pay check was a Generation Girl Lara.  I was in Love with this
doll.  I also collect FInal Fantasy figures and MOTU Evil Horde statues.  I'm also very fond of
edgy modern dolls that Fashion Royalty does.
What is the most difficult
part of picture taking for
you?

Lighting.  The lighting in some
settings can be very important
and can really set the mood
for the session.
Is there a must have/holy grail
collectible item that you would love
to have in your collection?

There are some the I drool over, but I
also like the idea of owning the doll.
It's  like meeting a celebrity.  You love
them and never meet them.  I really like
prototype dolls.  My most favorite is
the 1st prototype of Model of the
Moment Daria (she had the Lara face
mold).
Any final thoughts on
collecting or photographing
in general?

Have fun and enjoy it!  Learn
to accept changes in dolls.
Personally for me, I love what
Fashion Royalty is doing.
Experimenting with bodies
and new characters.  It makes
it edgy and new, and I love it.

I really admire Jason Wu.  He
has become my idol for
designing dolls at his age.  I
hope that someday, I can do
the same.
